Best In Ska 2009: First Feedback

The call for suggestions to the “Best in Ska” of 2009 still runs until 31.12.2009. These are just the intermediate results.

The call has not only boosted the comments on my blog by 300 per cent (there had been one before), some ska fans also transmitted their suggestions via myspace or facebook. In order to get all the nominees up to now in one place, I will collect them in this post. If you would like to add names to the shortlist, there is still a few days left. Just put them in the comments. And if you want to add a name or title in just one or two of the three categories (best album, best live band, best song), no problem. Any of these comments are very welcome.

Here we go.

Burning Bush
Best Album: Aggrolites, IV
Best Song: “Soul Gathering”, Aggrolites (IV)
Best Live Band: Babylove & The Van Dangos, The Caroloregians

Tobi Tonewheel
Best Album: Alaska – Something in Between
Best Song: Aggrolites – The Sufferer
Best Live Band: The Upsessions, Alaska

The Hook
Best Album: Alaska – Something in Between
Best Song: Westbound Train – Why You Cry
Best Live Band: The Stingers ATX, Alaska

Tommy Alphonso (via myspace)
Best album: “Beat You Reggae” – The Upsessions
Best song: “Shades Of Same Color” – Chris Murray
Best live band: The Caroloregians

Dell (via Facebook)
Best Album : Waking The Dead – The Busters
Best Song : No Discussion – The Crooners
Best Live Band : The Specials

As I said in a previous posting, I did not get to listen to a lot of stuff in 2009. While most of the names here are known to me from earlier days, there are some names still totally new to me (Alaska, The Crooners). Hopefully there will be more. I will definitly give them a listen and maybe some of you do, too.
